Done with that friend thing.

Day: -2

m&j40.JPG

Well I am not completely done with making friends or maintaining relationships with people, I did say godbye to the vast majority of my friends last night at my all night celebration. It was a drunk night and I am pretty sure that I made a complete ass out of myself in many ways. But hey, my friends love me for all my qualities and I don’t want them to only remember the good. Only two more days and I’m off. Watch out for the first of my daily posts (Day:0) in two days.

Day: -5

Party11.JPG

So it was my last night of work (i.e. a party behind the bar), I pretty much made Mareena do all the work while I drank the entire bottle of vodka that she brought for me, what a sweet girl. The night went pretty much as planned. I drank to much, cursed to much, and had an all around good time.

Lots of different people showed up.

Day: -7

partyinvite.jpg

Spent the last couple of weeks just out saying goodbye to all my friends, finishing up the last of the packing details and wrapping up the rest of the loose ends on my life. I am even going to do the unthinkable (ie. responsible) thing of writing a will, I plan to leave it all to my nieces (Regan and Madalyn).

For those of you that want to come I have two Bon Voyage events. First is in two nights (Wednesday) at Islands in Corona around 6pm, It’ll be my last shift bartending and I should be off, and a little buzzed, around 8pm. The next is Saturday night the 25th, It’ll be an all-nighter so bring your game faces. Its in my moms backyard, anyone who doesn’t know where that is just comment or message me and Ill get you directions.

Party pictures coming in the near future, show up at my festivities and you may make onto this hallowed webpage.

Can’t believe I’m giving this job up.

Day -14:

Yellowstone 05 (313).JPG

Yellowstone National Park, August 2005.

It’s getting down to the wire and my toes are wiggling. I wake up every morning expecting I will be somewhere else. It has been kind of crazy lately, all of my friends want to go out and individually celebrate my leaving, so needless to say I have maintained a buzz for about 5 days strait.

Yesterday I moved out of my house which I lived in for the last two years and moved all my things into a closet at my moms house.

Only two weeks left.

For those of you interested I wrote up a general budget for the first year of my trip. I hope to spend about US$18000.

Switzerland/Italy 21 Days @ $70/Day $1470
Eastern Europe 90 Days @ $40/Day $3600
Eastern Africa 60 Days @ $30/Day +$700 for Excursions $3200
India 30 Days @ $30/Day $900
S.E. Asia 75 Days @ $25/Day $1875
Philippines 30 Days @ $40/Day $1200
(I added more than I thought I’d need for the Philippines because I am staying with Joanna Joanna for a while and she really enjoys partying and living it up Abzv)
Austrailia/N.Z. 60 Days @ $50/Day $3000

This leaves me about $3500 for plane tickets from Europe to Africa, From Africa to India, Short hops around SE Asia, SE Asia to Austraila/NZ, and a Ticket back to California. I have already bought my one way to Switzerland and am not including that in the $18000.

Friends & French

Saturday, February 4th, 2006

Day -24:

Blarney Castle, Ireland. Feb. 2005

Reading, reading and more reading about everywhere I want to go, and all I learn is that my toughest decisions are still ahead of me. I can’t even begin to decide all the places I have to go. I am hoping that advice from the road will help me narrow my choices as I get into each country.

Yesterday I was in Costco and ran across a $12 french program, I thought what the hell, a basic understanding of another language could only be beneficial. So I spent the afternoon just lying in bed repeating phrases and counting in French while I followed along in my little 15 Minute French Book. I have a long way to go but I learned how to say hello, goodbye, and count to ten, but the word for traffic must be later. Because I couldn’t find a way to vent my frustration in French when I ran into traffic on my way to the O.C. (the same place as the popular TV show) to visit some friends.

Vito and Alissa are the closest two friends that I have remaining from my college years at California State University Fullerton. I have traveled with each of them individually on multiple occasions. Vito, who has spent some extensive periods of time traveling abroad in his past, spent the evening telling me stories and advice from his experience on the road. That is, until Alissa’s boyfriend, Phil, showed up and Vito and I spent the next couple of hours trying to get him to understand the glories of capitalism and the disadvantages of a socialist system(it was a great conversation, Phil). But after a few martini’s Vito and Phil just seemed to talk each other in circles and called it an early night around midnight.

Still counting down the days til my going away party (which I will reiterate that everyone is invited too) and til I leave (Woohoo!). But my to-do list just keeps getting shorter and shorter.

Millionaire Rob.

Day -26:

I had an interesting dream last night, it was one of those dreams that was so vivid that you swear it’s real, then you wake up and realize things are not how you thought they were. In my dream I won 10 million dollars on a lotto scratcher and was exuberant. Then I started planning on what to do with the money, The dream Rob decided that the most important thing to him was to take his trip around the world, so he invested the money and got packed. Then I woke up, needless to say I was disappointed that I didn’t have 10 million dollars. Then I realized that in 26 days I still get to take a trip around the world just like millionaire Rob. I smiled to myself, knowing that I am about to embark on a trip that even most millionaires will never take, then I rolled over to sleep a little more and hoped for more good dreams.

My visit to the doctor today left me with a numb arm a (my last shot, Hep A) and a bounce in my step. Dr Rupp, my physician for the last 15 years, let me know that I have low blood pressure, low cholesterol, no HIV, and am all in all “..a extremely healthly young man, you could travel the world for the next 10 years and be fine”. It goes without saying for those of you that know me that she obviously didn’t look at my liver, because I am sure that is a little F’d, or she would have told me to cut back on the sauce. Oh well, Life is meant to be lived and cocktails are made to be drank…
